Ryan McMahon News
Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon has been off to a nice start in the Cactus League with a .429 batting average to go along with four runs, one homer and two RBI. McMahon has been one of the few staples for the Rockies over the past few seasons and has hit a minimum of 20 homers, while playing 150 or more games during the past three seasons. Playing half of his games at Coors Field helps as his average is much higher there than on the road, but the power numbers have translated outside of the Rocky Mountains. McMahon isn't the sexiest name, but he's consistent and makes for a safe late-round option in upcoming drafts.
Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Minnesota Twins. The 28-year-old will get a breather here, so his absence doesn't appear to be injured related. Alan Trejo will cover third base and bat eighth versus right-hander Emilio Pagan on Saturday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups with McMahon on the bench.
Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon is back in the club's starting lineup for Wednesday afternoon's contest against the San Diego Padres and right-hander Seth Lugo. The 28-year-old didn't start Tuesday night's 2-0 shutout loss to the Friars but will return to hit fifth and man third base in Wednesday afternoon's series finale. For the season, McMahon has hit .244 with 23 home runs, five stolen bases, and a .770 OPS across 144 games, the fourth straight full season in which he has reached the 20-homer plateau. He will take on a pitcher enjoying a nice season as Lugo has worked to a solid 3.83 ERA in 24 starts while walking just 5.7% of the hitters he has faced.

Ryan McMahon has been a model of consistency in recent years. While he isn't as eye-catching as other infielders, he can certainly provide fantasy value. Over the last three seasons, McMahon has averaged 152 games, 22 homers, 74 RBI, 76 runs and six stolen bases. McMahon also has a .246/.326/.431 slash line since 2021 which is similar to last year's (.240/.322/.431). McMahon's expected numbers have been very similar to his actual numbers over the last three seasons. He strikeouts a lot (31.6% K% in 2023), but offsets it by walking a good amount (10.8% BB% in 2023). Since a two-week stint on the IL in 2019, McMahon has avoided injuries. He continues to hit in the heart of the lineup on a team that has one of the best hitters' ballparks in baseball. At 29 years old, it's fair to say that we won't see any more growth and there's limited upside with McMahon. But we also have a very good idea of what to expect from him. The fact he can fill in at second and third base makes McMahon an ideal later-round utility option that might not win you a fantasy league but will provide value.
