Dansby Swanson News
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson went 1-for-3 in an 8-5 Cactus League loss on Saturday. That makes him 2-for-7 in the spring with a run scored. The 2x All-Star also has three walks, putting his OBP at .500 (5-for-10). He's been on base via hit or walk in each of his first four spring games. Swanson should once again be a solid overall contributor for fantasy as he's produced no less than 22 HR, 80 RBI, 78 R, and 9 SB each of the past three seasons. ATC projections call for more of the same in 2024 plus double-digit steals to boot, making him a value at his current NFBC ADP of 125. RotoBaller ranks the 30-year-old Gold Glover much higher, at 103 overall.
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson and second baseman Nico Hoerner both won Gold Gloves in 2023. It's Swanson's second straight Gold Glove, while Hoerner won his first Gold Glove this year. Swanson's 20 outs above average led all MLB shortstops, and he also set a career-high with 18 defensive runs saved, which led all shortstops. The Cubs had a franchise-record three Gold Gloves this year with left fielder Ian Happ also winning the award. Other National League Gold Glove winners in 2023 include Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker, Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes, Diamondbacks rookie catcher Gabriel Moreno, Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler, Colorado Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle and San Diego Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. and utility man Ha-Seong Kim.
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson got in on the action in Tuesday's 20-9 drubbing of the Reds. Swanson went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a three-run HR, and a strikeout. The 29-year-old has provided consistent but unexciting fantasy production, slashing .266/.350/.446 with 15 HR, 50 RBI, and four stolen bases this season. While he hasn't been as electric as he has in the past, he should still be in fantasy managers' lineups at all times.

Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson has produced at least 22 HR, 80 RBI, 78 R, and 9 SB each of the past three seasons, but has a career BA of just .253. His first season in Chicago saw him reduce his K% two full percentage points down to 24.1% while raising his BB% from 7.0% (below average) to 10.3% (above average). The former No.1-overall pick's below-average career Contact% of 74.0% results in cold spells at the plate, however, his chase rate (28.4% in 2023) is better than the league average. With 18 SB in 2022, 77th percentile sprint speed, and rule changes that made it easier to swipe bags, managers would have liked more SB in 2023, but instead saw a decline to just nine steals. Swanson's projections have him stealing more in 2024, but not to the level we saw in 2022. The 2x All-Star's ATC line is projected at .252-22-82-81-12 with a WOBA of .323 and wRC+ of 103. His NFBC ADP of 128 matches his RotoBaller rank of 128 overall. The 30-year-old should be a solid contributor with a reliable floor and a small amount of upside, but it seems he is what he is at this point in his career.
