Kyle Tucker News
Houston Astros manager Joe Espada said that he's considering hitting outfielder Kyle Tucker third behind outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez this year. Their ability to handle left-handed pitchers factors in, but so does third baseman Alex Bregman's ability to hit with runners in scoring position in the cleanup spot. Tucker still hit in the third-hole 37 percent of the time last year and hit 13 of his 29 home runs with a .938 OPS in that spot, so we think he'll be just fine there more often in 2024. The 27-year-old left-handed hitter is a top-five overall fantasy player after making the All-Star team each of the last two seasons. Tucker has hit .278/.353/.517 with an .870 OPS, 89 home runs, 311 RBI and 69 stolen bases in the last three years combined. He's a beast.
Houston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker said that he hasn't had a "hard offer" yet from the team when asked about the state of his extension negotiations with the Astros. Tucker has one more year of arbitration eligibility in 2025 before he's set to reach free agency. General manager Dana Brown said last week that the team would make Tucker a long-term contract offer eventually, but it remains to be seen when that will happen. The 27-year-old left-handed slugger has cemented himself as one of the best all-around players in baseball -- RotoBaller has him ranked fourth overall -- after hitting .284/.369/.517 with an .886 OPS, 29 home runs, a league-high 112 RBI, a career-high 30 stolen bases and 97 runs scored in 157 games in 2023. Tucker has an incredible 89 long balls and 311 RBI in the last three years.
The Houston Astros and outfielder Kyle Tucker settled at a $12 million salary for the upcoming 2024 season on Thursday to avoid salary arbitration, according to a source. It's a $7 million raise from a season ago. The 26-year-old has become one of the best left-handed sluggers in the game after slashing .284/.369/.517 with an .886 OPS, 29 home runs, 37 doubles, five triples, a league-high 112 RBI, a career-high 30 stolen bases and a career-high 97 runs scored in 674 trips to the plate over 157 games played. He's made back-to-back All-Star teams has one more season of arbitration eligibility before he becomes a free agent after the 2025 season. Tucker fell short of his third straight season of exactly 30 home runs when he finished with 29 dingers in 2023.

Houston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker finished just one HR shy of a 30/30 season in 2023, and he should make another run at the feat in 2024. Even if he doesn't quite get there, King Tuck will be a top fantasy asset again. Last season, the 26-year-old had a .284-29-112-97-30 line with a .372 WOBA and 140 wRC+. He'll go into the 2024 campaign at the age of 27, and a special season could be in store if some trends continue. Since 2019, the former first-round pick has increased his BB% and lowered his K%, increased his Contact%, lowered his SwStr%, and added to his stolen base total each year. Tucker's NFBC ADP sits at 7, right where RotoBaller also has him ranked. The left-handed, no-batting-glove-wearing hitter finished fifth in AL MVP voting in 2023, yet his FGDC projections look even a bit more promising for 2024: .286-34-110-103-26 with a WOBA of .377 and wRC+ 142. The sky-high ADP might be hard to outperform, but he'll help guide managers to the fantasy throne nonetheless, and an AL MVP-caliber season is not out of the question, maybe even likely.
