Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in the Astros triumphant Game 5 win over the Rays to advance to the ALCS. Gurriel smacked a single in the first inning to cap off a thunderous four-run inning to start the game. Gurriel finishes the series with four runs batted in and went 3-for-8 (.375) with runners in scoring position. He will have to continue to deliver in the ALCS against the Yankees.
Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel will start at first base and hit sixth in Game 4 against the Rays. Gurriel has hits in each of the first three games of the series, going 5-for-12 (.417) with one double and three runs batted in. The Astros offense is so deep and dynamic that it is almost unfair that a player of Gurriel's offensive caliber is hitting sixth. Gurriel home/road splits have been pretty drastic in the regular season, however, posting only a .815 OPS on the road as opposed to .968 at Minute Maid Park.
Houston Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel has enjoyed the best season of his career and will look to keep it going when the team begins their playoff push this Friday. Gurriel posted a career-high 73 extra-base hits and drove in 104 runs. He raised his OPS from .751 last season to .884 this season thanks to a dynamite second half. In 62 games from the All-Star break, Gurriel has slashed .326/.382/.623 with 17 home runs, 19 doubles and 54 runs batted in. The 35-year-old has gone from fringe fantasy asset to elite starter in a short span of time and now will try to keep it going throughout the postseason.
