Cincinnati Reds catcher and utility infielder Kyle Farmer will begin the season on the team's 25-man roster as a result of Scooter Gennett's injury. Farmer had lost out on the team's backup catcher position to Curt Casali earlier in the week, but will now serve as depth on the bench. The most AB he's gotten in the majors was 68 with the Dodgers last year, but he had pretty good OBP numbers in the minors and can take a walk. He could become something if injury strikes Casali or the team's main catcher, Tucker Barnhart. For now, though, he's not fantasy-relevant.
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher/infielder Kyle Farmer was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City after Wednesday's game. The Dodgers are off Thursday and this move points to the return of Chase Utley for Friday's game against the Mets. Farmer has no home runs, one run, and eight RBI to go with a weak .238/.310/.302 slash line.
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes will get the start on Tuesday against lefty Dillon Peters and the Marlins and bat sixth. Kyle Farmer will start at third and bat eighth. Barnes is 4-for-12 against lefties this year and even though Yasmani Grandal is the team's best hitter, he needs a day off from time to time. Farmer isn't spectacular against lefties, but Max Muncy (who was drawing regular starts at third) can't hit them at all. This just looks like a day off for the regulars against a weaker opponent.
