Danny Jansen News
After making his season debut on Tuesday, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen will take a seat on the bench for Wednesday's contest against the division-rival New York Yankees. Jansen just returned from a fractured wrist on Tuesday, and the Blue Jays are going to ease him back into the fold behind the plate. Alejandro Kirk is doing the catching for right-hander Kevin Gausman and will hit eighth against Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman. Jansen went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in his first start on Tuesday and could need some time before he gets going at the plate after a long layoff. Kirk has been slow out of the gates, too, going 10-for-50 (.200) with no homers and eight RBI. He has a hit in his two career at-bats against Stroman.
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (wrist), who was activated from the injured list on Monday, is expected to make his 2024 debut on Tuesday against the New York Yankees and left-hander Carlos Rodon. Jansen suffered a fractured right wrist when he was hit by a pitch in a spring training game on March 13. He'll wear special padding to protect his hands because he's been prone to hand injuries due to the way he swings. The return of Jansen will mean fewer rest days for catcher Alejandro Kirk moving forward. Jansen hit .228 last year but with 17 home runs and 53 RBI for the Blue Jays. If he can stay healthy the rest of the way, he can provide some nice pop at the catcher position for fantasy managers. Jansen has never faced Rodon in his career.
The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Monday that they activated catcher Danny Jansen (wrist) from the 10-day injured list and optioned catcher Brian Serven to the minors in a corresponding move. Despite being back with the Blue Jays, Jansen will start Monday's game against the visiting New York Yankees on the bench with Alejandro Kirk catching right-hander Chris Bassitt. The 29-year-old Jansen missed the opening of the 2024 season due to a small fracture in his right wrist that he suffered during spring training. He went 4-for-13 with a home run during his minor-league rehab assignment and can provide fantasy managers with some decent pop from the catching position now that he's healthy. If Kirk continues to struggle offensively, Jansen could become the primary backstop in Toronto.

Over the past two seasons, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen has shown what made him a top prospect before his debut in 2018, posting a 124 wRC+. This year he really hit his stride, smacking 15 home runs with a .260 average, one stolen base, 34 runs, and 44 RBI across 72 games. Jansen has the tools; he owns a 19.9% career strikeout rate and 8.7% barrel rate and produced back-to-back seasons with an average exit velocity of at least 90 MPH. The 27-year-old started hitting a ton of fly balls in 2022 (32.4%) and pulled them an insane amount (41.6%). Regardless, fantasy managers should play it cautiously. Not only did Jansen only appear in 72 games with multiple injuries, but he only played 70 games the previous year. Even if he stays healthy, everyday at-bats aren't a guarantee. Although the Blue Jays traded Gabriel Moreno, they still employ Alejandro Kirk, who was the superior defender by multiple metrics, and Jansen will have to split designated hitter duties with Brandon Belt. The backstop's 186 ADP would be a steal if he had constant playing time and a healthy track record, but fantasy managers should buy into more of a guarantee.
