Corey Oswalt News
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt from the San Francisco Giants over the weekend, in exchange for cash considerations. Oswalt hadn't pitched in a major league game for the Giants this year, and he threw only 10 1/3 innings for the New York Mets last year, allowing four earned runs while walking two and striking out 10 in three appearances (one start). The 28-year-old has a 5.89 career ERA, a 1.41 WHIP and a 17.2% strikeout rate in 94 2/3 innings pitched in four major league seasons, all with the Mets. At Triple-A Sacramento this year, Oswalt had a rough 7.11 ERA in just 12 2/3 innings. He'll represent relief depth for the Phillies.
The New York Mets placed right-hander Corey Oswalt (knee) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday with right knee inflammation and recalled right-hander Robert Stock from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. Oswalt suffered the injury in his first start of the season on Sunday against the New York Yankees. He had a 3.48 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 10/2 K/BB in three outings (one start) over just 10 1/3 innings pitched for the Mets this year. Stock is likely to take Oswalt's spot in the Mets depleted rotation for the time being and start against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday. The right-hander allowed five earned runs while striking out three and walking six in four innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs on June 16 in his only start of the season. Stock won't be a recommended fantasy streamer on Wednesday.
New York Mets starting pitcher Chris Oswalt could be in line to be a permanent member of the team's rotation. The 27-year-old, who was recently picked up from Triple-A Syracuse, started in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees. Although the righty struggled to some degree, allowing four hits and three ER throughout four innings of work, he still managed to strike out four batters. He could get another start sometime before the All-Star break, but even if he doesn't, he is still someone to keep an eye on, primarily with the team having issues keeping people healthy this season.
