Ramón Laureano News
Oakland Athletics outfielder Ramon Laureano (groin) is back in the Cactus League lineup on Friday against the Kansas City Royals, starting in right field and batting third. Laureano missed two spring contests this week with groin tightness, but it obviously wasn't a very serious situation. Injuries have been an issue for the 28-year-old in the past, but when healthy, he provides an interesting mix of power and speed, albeit in one of the weakest lineups in baseball and in a pitcher-friendly home park. Laureano hasn't had 500 plate appearances in any of his five major-league seasons and has played over 100 games just one time (2019). If everything breaks right for him and he stays healthy, there's a chance he could flirt with a 20-20 season in 2023.
Oakland Athletics outfielder Ramon Laureano (groin) was scratched from Tuesday's Cactus League lineup with left groin tightness, according to the team. It doesn't sound as though Laureano's injury is very serious, but we'll keep a close eye on him this week. The 28-year-old will remain an outfield regular for the A's in 2023, giving him appeal in deeper mixed leagues for his power/speed combination. He played in only 94 games in 2022 due to a suspension and a late-season injury, slashing .287/.376/.663 with a career-low .663 OPS, 13 home runs, 34 RBI, 49 runs scored and 11 stolen bases. He's just outside of RotoBaller's top 50 fantasy outfielders, mainly because he's only played over 100 games once in his five MLB seasons. Laureano will also reside in one of the league's weakest offenses.
Oakland Athletics center fielder Ramon Laureano (hamstring) is expected to miss the rest of the season after being placed on the 10-day injured list last Saturday with a right hamstring strain. "I'm kind of sure it's going to be a season-ending (injury)," manager Mark Kotsay said. Still, Laureano will begin a rehab program in the coming days. He had already missed time from Aug. 15 to Sept. 5 with a strained left oblique, so the A's aren't going to rush him back with nothing to play for in 2022. The 28-year-old Dominican outfielder will finish his campaign with a .211/.287/.376 slash line with 13 home runs, 34 RBI, 49 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 383 plate appearances and 94 games. Seth Brown and Cristian Pache have been operating in a platoon in center field with Laureano out.

Oakland Athletics outfielder Ramon Laureano (suspension) was suspended 80 games for violating MLB's PED policy and has 27 games remaining on his suspension. He underwent core surgery to address a sports hernia last October but is expected to be ready when his suspension is lifted in May. Before the suspension, the 27-year-old slashed .246/.317/.413 while posting .459 XSLG and .327 wOBA over 88 games. His barrel rate increased from 9.4% in 2020 to 10.4% in 2021, while his hard-hit percentage rose from 34.4% to 40.2%. Once Laureano returns from suspension, he will hit near the top of the order as the team's everyday centerfielder. The A's outfielder should hit around 20 homers and swipe 10 bags in 2022. ATC/Cutter projections are on board with this assessment and projecting Laureano to hit .254 with 20 long balls and 13 stolen bases over 500 plate appearances. According to Rotoballer's Expected Draft Values, ATC's projections make Laureano roughly fair value at his ADP of 269. Laureano is in the prime of his career and should produce for fantasy managers once he returns from suspension.
