Seranthony Domínguez News
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez earned his second save of the week and year as he protected a two-run lead in the ninth frame versus the Miami Marlins Thursday. The 28-year-old was one of just two relievers that were not used in Wednesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to Miami. Dominguez, this season has a record of 2-2 and a 4.45 ERA in 36 appearances. In 30/1 innings pitched, the right-hander has struck out 32 opposing team batters.
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez earned his first save of the season in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Marlins. Dominguez came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by two and turned in a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout to end the game. Closer Craig Kimbrel had pitched in each of the last two games, so Dominguez got the call to close this one out. The 26-year-old has pitched just 29 1/3 innings this season due to injury and has posted a lackluster 4.60 ERA with five blown saves. His fantasy value is very limited now that Kimbrel has clearly taken over the closer's role for the Phillies.
The Philadelphia Phillies reinstated relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez (oblique) from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Andrew Bellatti to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in a corresponding move. Dominguez will return to a setup role in front of closer Craig Kimbrel in Philadelphia's bullpen after missing around five weeks with a left-oblique strain. As such, the 28-year-old Dominican right-hander will be an option once again in leagues that reward points for holds. Before landing on the injured list, Dominguez had a 4.33 ERA (4.32 FIP), 1.56 WHIP, 11 walks and 28 strikeouts in 27 relief innings. If anything were to happen to Kimbrel, Dominguez would be in the mix for saves in Philly.
Philadelphia Phillies reliever Seranthony Dominguez came into 2022 after missing almost the previous two seasons from Tommy John surgery. Over 51 innings he posted a 3.00 ERA, 3.09 FIP, 29.5% strikeout rate, and 1.14 WHIP with nine saves and became the ace of the pen by year's end. The talent is obviously there. Dominguez owns a career 29.9% strikeout rate and 33% whiff rate, including a 32.6% mark this season. He threw his fastball about as hard as pre-Tommy John, at 97.6 MPH and it had batters whiffing 35.4% of the time. Dominguez's slider also showed great velocity (89.5 MPH) and managed an unbelievable 57.1% whiff rate. In spite of the 28-year-old's domination in 2022, his role in 2023 remains murky. In a busy offseason, the Phillies have added two closers in Craig Kimbrel and Gregory Soto and brought in Matt Strahm who earned four saves himself. They now have many potential ninth-inning arms, including Jose Alvarado and Connor Brogdon. The right-hander might be the first option late in games for manager Rob Thompson, but chances are he doesn't save 20 games next year. Fantasy managers looking for saves should hold off on Dominguez (214 ADP) and target relievers such as Pete Fairbanks (219 ADP) or Kyle Finnegan (265 ADP), both projected to garner more saves with value in other categories as well.
