Shed Long Jr. News
Baltimore Orioles infielder Shed Long Jr. (leg) has started a minor league rehab assignment with Single-A Delmarva. Long has yet to play this year while fighting through a lower leg injury. The 26-year-old played in 34 games for the Seattle Mariners last year and had a slash line of just .198/.258/.360 with four home runs, 17 RBI, 13 runs scored and one stolen base in 111 at-bats. He won't be guaranteed a major league roster spot in Baltimore once he's healthy. In his three major league seasons with the Mariners, Long has hit .216/.284/.376 with 12 home runs, 41 RBI, 44 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 110 total games.
Seattle Mariners utility man Shed Long Jr. (shin) was one of a number of players outrighted off the 40-man roster Friday. Utility man Sam Haggerty, pitcher Darren McCaughan, outfielder Marcus Wilson, and pitcher Ryan Weber were also sent to Triple-A. Long Jr. and Weber have both elected free agency. It's been a tough road for Long Jr., who has had each of the last two seasons end with shin issues. There's some power and speed upside, but it's hard to imagine Long Jr. being a factor for fantasy managers entering 2022 no matter where he ends up.
Seattle Mariners second baseman/outfielder Shed Long Jr. (shin) visited a specialist recently to have his right shin examined, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Long has been on the injured list with a right shin stress reaction which is the same injury that ended his 2020 campaign and required off-season surgery. Clearly this is not a good sign for Long, as it seems he may once again find his season cut short. Long was slashing .198/.258/.360 over 34 games this season, so there's really no reason to hold onto him at this point in any redraft format.
