Team News
Kevin Newman is at Second on Saturday

Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Kevin Newman is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Newman will bat leadoff and play second base versus lefty Jon Lester. Adam Frazier is normally at second base, but gets the day off against the left-handed starter. Newman has been average with the bat, but doesn't have great upside. He's in a favorable spot in the order, so he could be a cheap DFS option, but don't expect too much from him.

Pirates Waste Brilliant Performance By Steven Brault

Pittsburgh Pirate Steven Brault hurled a gem against the Cubs on Saturday, allowing only two hits over seven innings, while striking out eight. Unfortunately, one of the hits was a home run by Kris Bryant and Brault was saddled with the loss, with the Pirates ultimately losing 2-0. Brault is still a matchup dependant streamer on a bad Pirates club but is worth keeping an eye on as the 27-year-old lefthander has allowed two or fewer runs in nine of his 12 starts.

Jameson Taillon Has Another Tommy John Surgery

Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Jameson Taillon (elbow) will miss the rest of this season and all of 2020 after undergoing a second Tommy John procedure on Tuesday. The right-hander also underwent right flexor tendon surgery. Injuries have been consistent in his young career, and Taillon will be 29 years old when he's ready to return to a major league mound. He finishes the 2019 season with a 2-3 record, 4.10 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in his seven starts (37 1/3 innings). Taillon should be able to make a return in 2021, but it's fair to wonder if he'll ever be as effective as he was in his breakout 2018 season.

Bryan Reynolds Continues Quietly Great Rookie Season

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds went 3-for-4 with two walks and a solo home run during Tuesday's 10-7 win over the Los Angeles Angels. He continues a fantastic rookie campaign that has seen him hit 13 home runs with a .338 average. If it were another season, Reynolds would be getting a push for National League Rookie of the Year, but with the performances of the New York Mets' Peter Alonso and the San Diego Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr., Reynolds' season has gone by without much notice. He should be owned in all formats.

Mitch Keller To Remain With Pirates All Season

Pittsburgh Pirates starter Mitch Keller is taking the hill Monday versus the Angels for his first start in the majors since June 18, and he will be in the majors to stay. Manager Clint Hurdle stated it "is our intention" to keep their young hurler in the rotation for the remainder of the season as they want to get him more big-league experience going into next season. Keller is one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and is worth a speculative add in deeper mixed leagues. He owns a 3.56 ERA with 123 strikeouts in 103.2 innings at Triple-A, but hasn't found his groove through his first three starts in the bigs. Keller's been roughed up for 14 runs in 12 IP, but he did manage to punch out 15 batters. The right-hander is a viable streamer for tonight's matchup versus a below-average Angels lineup.
