Starling Marte Open To Being Traded

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte, who has two years left on his contract at $11.5 million in 2020 and a $12.5 million option for 2021, is open to being traded to a contending team this winter. The Mets have been linked with the All-Star outfielder, and Marte said it would be "an honor to play with them." Marte hit .295 with an .845 OPS and 25 steals last season and can contribute across the board for fantasy players as an early round pick. Moving to a contending team would also be slightly better for his overall numbers.

Pirates Pick Up Starling Marte's Option

The Pittsburgh Pirates will pick up their $11.5 million 2020 option on outfielder Starling Marte, according to sources. It was a no-brainer move after Marte set new career highs in home runs (23), RBI (82), runs (97), slugging percentage (.503) and OPS (.845). He also finished with a 2.9 Wins Above Replacement, which was tied with Josh Bell for third highest on the team. However, with Pittsburgh in a rebuilding phase, the team could look to trade Marte in the offseason or next year before the trading deadline under a new general manager. Marte contributes across the board for fantasy owners in all categories and will remain an early-round target in fantasy drafts next spring.

Pirates To Pick Up Chris Archer's Option

The Pittsburgh Pirates will pick up the 2020 option on starting pitcher Chris Archer worth $8.25 million, according to a source. The 31-year-old dealt with injuries in 2019 and disappointed with a 3-9 record and 5.19 ERA in his first full season with the Bucs. Pittsburgh is hoping that Archer working with a new pitching coach next year and avoiding injuries will help him rebound. The right-hander certainly has rebound potential, but his stock has obviously fallen to a mid-round value pick now after previously being a potential ace during his days in Tampa.

Pirates Not Expected To Trade Starling Marte

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Starling Marte is expected to begin the 2020 season with the team, according to industry sources. Things should become clearer after executives meet at the general manager meetings and winter meetings, and the Pirates haven't exactly made their stance completely clear. The Bucs will exercise Marte's $11.5 million option for 2020, and his deal also includes a $12.5 million option for 2021. But Marte will likely remain as the team's center fielder with Pittsburgh not interested in a full-on rebuild. At 30 years old, Marte hit .295/.342/.503 with a career-high 23 home runs, a career-high 82 RBI and 25 steals. His season ended early due to a wrist injury, but Marte remains a special fantasy asset that can contribute across all categories. Even if Marte begins 2020 in Pittsburgh, he'll be a candidate to be moved at the July trade deadline.

Bryan Reynolds Won't Play on Sunday

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds (hamstring) won't play in the season finale on Sunday versus the Cincinnati Reds. Reynolds tweaked his hamstring on Wednesday and hasn't played since then. The Pirates were eliminated from postseason contention while ago, so there was no need to rush back Reynolds. Jake Elmore will play right field and bat sixth versus righty Tyler Mahle. Elmore has been hot this week with the bat. He could be worth a look as a cheap DFS option, but he doesn't have home run pop in his bat.
