Mike Moustakas Agrees With Reds

The Cincinnati Reds and third baseman/second baseman Mike Moustakas agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal on Monday, according to league sources. With Eugenio Suarez entrenched at the hot corner in Cincinnati, Moose will presumably be the team's starting second baseman in 2020 with Jose Peraza being non-tendered. Moustakas hit .254/.329/.516 with 35 home runs and 87 RBI in 2019 with the Brewers, earning his third All-Star nod in the process. Having both third and second base eligibility for at least one more season will be huge, while Moose's power stroke should be in good hands in another hitter-friendly park in Cincinnati. It's a good landing spot for him.

Jose Peraza Non-Tendered By Reds

Cincinnati Reds infielder Jose Peraza was non-tendered by the Reds on Monday, according to sources. Peraza finds himself a free agent after a dismal year for the Reds. He hit .239/.285/.346 with six homers, 33 RBI and seven steals in 141 games after slashing .288/.326/.416 with 14 long balls, 58 RBI and 23 stolen bases in 157 games in 2018. Peraza had at least 21 stolen bases in each of the previous seasons before 2019, so his fantasy owners were burned last season. He should latch on with another team because of his defensive versatility and speed, but he'll have to earn an everyday job at his next location. The Reds signed Mike Moustakas to play second base on Monday.

Reds Pick Up Freddy Galvis' Option

The Cincinnati Reds picked up shortstop Freddy Galvis' $5.5 million option for the 2020 season. Galvis has always been known for his superior glove work at the 6, but he managed to hit a career-high 23 home runs with the Blue Jays and Reds in 2019. Don't count on the power returning again in 2020, but Galvis has the opportunity as the presumed starter at a hitter-friendly park. He'll be more of a middle infield fantasy option in deep mixed and NL-only affairs.

Jose Iglesias Won't Play on Sunday

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Jose Iglesias (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's season finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Iglesias is getting a routine day off here, but has actually put together a good year while in Cincinnati. Jose Peraza will bat leadoff and play shortstop versus righty Trevor Williams. Peraza has put together a solid week with the bat, so he's a decent option for DFS contests.

Raisel Iglesias Blows Save, Takes 12th Loss on Friday

Cincinnati Reds closer Raisel Iglesias struggled in a 6-5 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. Iglesias came on to get the save in a 5-4 game but wound up allowing two runs while getting just two outs. The blown save goes down as his sixth in 40 chances. It has been a rough season for Iglesias, who has a 3-12 record, 4.23 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts in 66 innings of work.
