Yairo Muñoz News
Boston Red Sox outfielder Yairo Munoz left Thursdays game versus Miami early due to lower back spasms. Prior to his departure, Munoz went 0-for-2 at the dish, ceding way in left field to Tzu-Wei Lin. Having seen consistent playing time since making his season debut on Sept. 1, Munoz has compiled a .333 average through his first 12 games. Despite not having drawn a walk this year, Munoz has flashed potential with six extra-base hits and two stolen bases. Check back for an update on his status moving forward as he presents a low-priced DFS option over the final week-plus should he stay healthy.
The Boston Red Sox signed infielder Yairo Munoz to a minor league deal on Wednesday. Munoz will provide middle infield depth for the Red Sox after he was released by the Cardinals. The 25-year-old Dominican has a .273/.331/.391 career slash in the big leagues in two seasons (196 games) while adding 10 home runs, 55 RBI and 13 stolen bases in his 465 at-bats with St. Louis. At best, he'll be middle infield depth for those in AL-only leagues if he's called up in 2020 as a utility man in Beantown.
St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong is not in the lineup Wednesday. He is replaced by third baseman Yairo Munoz, batting seventh, while Tommy Edman slides to second base and remains in the leadoff spot for a second straight game since Matt Carpenter returned to the injured list. The Cardinals are facing Pittsburgh Pirates starter Chris Archer. Of Edman and Munoz, Edman is the slightly better DFS play, but the middle of St. Louis' order provides better options if you wish to play the matchup with Archer.
