Yimi García News
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Yimi Garcia (side) wasn't available for Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox due to left-side discomfort. He will be re-evaluated over the weekend. The 31-year-old allowed two hits while striking out one across a scoreless inning in Tuesday's win over the White Sox. He started dealing with side discomfort after Tuesday's outing and is considered day-to-day. Garcia owns a 3.42 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 26 1/3 innings in 2022. The Blue Jays right-hander is 0-for-3 in save opportunities but has racked up 12 holds over 28 games. Garcia holds more fantasy value in saves and holds leagues, and fantasy managers should know his status for the upcoming weekend series against the Boston Red Sox.
The Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal with right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia on Saturday. The deal includes a club option for the 2023 season. Garcia has a high-spin fastball and will provide the Blue Jays with a nice middle-innings reliever. The 31-year-old spent part of last season as the closer for the Miami Marlins and had a 3.47 ERA with 15 saves before he was traded to the Houston Astros. Garcia wasn't as good there, sporting a 5.48 ERA down the stretch and allowing seven runs in five innings in the postseason before tossing four scoreless innings in the World Series. Toronto is coming off a 91-71 season in 2021 in which they just missed the postseason. Jordan Romano should enter 2022 as the Jays closer, but bullpen roles might be flexible.
Miami Marlins relief pitcher Yimi Garcia was traded to the Houston Astros on Wednesday, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported. The 30-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 3.47 ERA with 35 strikeouts over 36 1/3 innings and had recorded 15 saves so far this season for Miami. While Garcia's ERA has gone up since the start of the season, he remains solid and can benefit from pitching for a contender like the Astros. The Marlins received Triple-A outfielder Bryan De La Cruz in the trade.
