Free agent center/power forward Pau Gasol has signed a one-year deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he'll likely back up starting center Hassan Whiteside. Gasol's reached a point in his career where his presence on the floor isn't really that useful for anyone, and it's hard to see him having much fantasy value this upcoming season, especially with Jusuf Nurkic (leg) likely to return in the second half of the season, which would make Gasol the third center at best. He's best avoided in fantasy league.
Milwaukee Bucks center Pau Gasol is expected to miss the remainder of the 2018-19 regular season due to a left ankle injury, as was first reported by Malika Andrews of ESPN. The injury is expected to sideline Gasol for at least a month, which would cut into a first-round playoff series. Its possible Gasol could return around that time, as he joins Malcolm Brogdon and Nikola Mirotic on the sidelines until at least the postseason. Gasol has played just 30 minutes across three games with Milwaukee since arriving from San Antonio.
Center Pau Gasol had his contract bought out by the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, paving the way for him to join the Milwaukee Bucks for the remainder of the 2018-19 season, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Gasol has appeared in 27 games (six starts) this year for the Spurs, averaging a career-low 12.2 minutes per contest, adding just 4.2 points and 4.7 rebounds on a nightly basis. He will likely come off the bench behind Brook Lopez for Milwaukee, who boasts the leagues best record. Gasol's departure from San Antonio likely clears the way for Jakob Poeltl to see additional run down the stretch, although LaMarcus Aldridge could be deployed at the center spot as well.
