Everson Griffen News
Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen peacefully exited his home without incident on Wednesday after police and mental health professionals responded to a 911 call made by Griffen. They spent most of the day working with Griffen to get him to leave his home after he said there was an intruder inside of his home and that he needed help. Authorities were unable to locate an intruder in Griffen's residence. Griffen took a five-game leave of absence in 2018 due to a mental health-related issue, and the Vikings only concern at the moment is his well-being. It's unlikely that Griffen will be available for the Week 12 game against the San Francisco 49ers, and with most of their defensive line starters injured or out, we wouldn't recommend using the Vikings defense in fantasy against a physical 49ers offense.
The Minnesota Vikings signed defensive end Everson Griffen to an undisclosed deal on Monday. Griffen managed six sacks for the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions last year, but he spent the first 10 seasons of his career in Minnesota. The four-time Pro Bowler had 258 solo tackles, 86 tackles for loss, 74.5 sacks, two interceptions (one for a touchdown), 16 passes defensed, nine forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries (one touchdown) in his 10 seasons with the Vikings. The 33-year-old is more of a situational pass-rusher at this point in his career, so don't expect him to return to a starting role with the Vikings or be fantasy relevant in IDP leagues.
Because of COVID-19 protocols, the Detroit Lions Defense will not have newly acquired defensive end Everson Griffen available to play in Week 8 against the Colts. Griffen's debut with Detroit will come on Nov. 8 against the Vikings, the team that he spent the first 10 years of his career with while earning four Pro Bowl nods. The Lions sent a sixth-round draft pick in 2021 to the Cowboys for Griffen's services on Tuesday, and he'll be a veteran present for Detroit's defensive line the rest of the season. While the 32-year-old isn't an IDP starting option at his position on a weekly basis, he should help improve their defensive line. However, the Lions defense overall is near the bottom of the league in fantasy points through seven weeks, so you should continue to avoid them everywhere.
