James Starks News
The running back situation in Green Bay has devolved into a complete mess. When Green Bay takes on the Seahawks in Week 14, the Packers are likely to give an equal share of the carries to three equally flawed running backs. Christine Michael has shown that he can be an effective every-down back, but Mike McCarthy still doesn't fully trust his knowledge of the offense. Ty Montgomery has looked like a dynamic runner, but Green Bay seems concerned that he won't hold up if he gets more than seven carries. James Starks knows the offense and can physically hold up, but has been slow and ineffective carrying the ball. None of these players are going to get enough looks to be worth starting, even as a flex.
James Starks has had a productive two weeks since returning from injury. However, that run is likely coming to an end. Christine Michael will be making his debut for Green Bay when they travel to Philadelphia for Week 12. In addition to another body to compete with over carries, Starks will be going up against a dominant Eagles' front seven. You should leave Starks on your bench this week. Unless there is another injury, it is hard to see how Starks will have much value going forward.
While James Starks has been a very valuable player to Green Bay throughout his career, he has looked washed up. This year Starks has averaged 2.4 yards per carry. It is unclear why Green Bay is comfortable taking snaps away from Ty Montgomery and giving them to Starks, but that is what has happened. Fortunately, by next week Starks should largely be replaced in the offense by the recently acquired Christine Michael. Until that happens, Starks is likely to receive enough carries to at least be worth a fleeting fantasy consideration. If bye weeks or injuries are leaving you desperate, you can be confident that Starks will put up at least some points in Week 11. He should be viewed as a low-end flex play for Week 11.
