Jeremy Kerley News
The New England Patriots are working out free-agent wide receiver Jeremy Kerley on Wednesday, according to a source. Even with Julian Edelman due back next week and after trading for Josh Gordon last week, the Patriots are in need of more receiver depth. Kerley was released by the Bills a few weeks ago and is well off the fantasy radar.
The Buffalo Bills released wide receiver Jeremy Kerley on Saturday and signed defensive tackle Robert Thomas from the practice squad in a corresponding move. Kerley caught two of four targets for only seven yards in the season opener. Buffalo's depth behind Kelvin Benjamin was already suspect, so the release of Kerley is a bit of a head scratcher. Benjamin is the only Bills receiver worth considering in fantasy, and even then he's not a strong starting option.
Buffalo Bills wide receiver Jeremy Kerley has solidified a role as the team's slot receiver in offensive coordinator Brian Daboll's system, according to ESPN.com's Mike Rodak. Rodak said, "it's the Patriots system, and we know that spot has put up numbers in the past (Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, etc.)." There is a lot of opportunity for targets in this offense behind Kelvin Benjamin, with rookie Antonio Callaway and second-year man Zay Jones as wild cards. This is an offense in flux, though, so Kerley may still be inconsistent with a starting role. He's worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues, though.
