  • Panthers Won't Stop Cam Newton From Running

Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Scott Turner, the son of offensive coodinator Norv Turner, said the team won't keep quarterback Cam Newton from running. "He's going to run -; that's what makes him the dynamic player he is -; but also making the throws in the pocket, going through his reads. All of those things come from experience, and he's played seven seasons now," Scott Turner said. Coming off offseason shoulder surgery, Newton was highly inconsistent with his accuracy last year, and he's only completed 58.5 percent of his passes in his career, something that the team wants to improve. Newton was highly inconsistent for his fantasy owners, too, but the saving grace was his league-leading and career-high 754 rushing yards. The fact that Cam will continue to use his legs to make big plays will keep him in the conversation as a QB1 in 2018.

  • Cam Newton Dealing With Injury

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton (knee) suffered ligament and cartilage damage in his knee in the Panthers Wild-Card loss to the Saints. An MRI revealed the injuries the day after the game when Newton's knee was experiencing major swelling. The Panthers say Newton does not need surgery, but this is something to keep in mind should Cam not be ready for organized team activities. He's going to be learning a new offense under offensive coordinator Norv Turner.

  • Norv Turner Won't Stop Cam Newton From Running

Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner said he won't stop quarterback Cam Newton from running in 2018. "I think that's a real threat to defenses. Defenses, they're really bothered by that. He's always got to have that as part of his game. He's always got to have the threat to run. Depending on who we're playing, how we're playing and things that are going, I think it's always going to be a part of what we do," Turner said. As a passer in 2017, Newton got off to a really slow start after offseason surgery, but he was incredibly inconsistent throughout the year. The thing that saved him in fantasy owners' eyes were his legs, as he set a career high with 754 rushing yards. Turner hinted that he'll work to improve Newton mechanically, but expect the big QB to continue scrambling and making big plays with his legs when he needs to. If Carolina can get the vertical passing game going under Turner, Newton could have an even bigger year in 2018.
