Rishard Matthews News
The New York Jets are signing free-agent wide receiver Rishard Matthews on Tuesday, according to a source. Matthews fell out of favor with the new coaching staff in Tennessee despite going for 65 catches, 945 yards and nine touchdowns just two seasons ago. There is opportunity in New York with Quincy Enunwa (ankle) out a few weeks and Terrelle Pryor no longer on the roster. Still, the Jets also have Robby Anderson and Jermaine Kearse, so it remains to be seen if Matthews can carve out a fantasy-relevant role in this inconsistent offense led by rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. For now, Matthews is only worthy of a stash in much deeper leagues.
Free-agent wide receiver Rishard Matthews worked out with the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday. Although he left without a deal, Matthews would be an interesting option for an otherwise barren wide receiver depth chart. Regardless of whether or not Matthews gets signed, the Cardinals have yet to show that they are capable of producing fantasy relevant receivers. Currently, the best option is rookie wide receiver Christian Kirk, who projects as a flex option in deep leagues.
Free-agent wide receiver Rishard Matthews has workouts planned with the Cleveland Browns on Monday and the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday. Matthews was curiously not being used by Tennessee's new coaching staff, so he asked for and was granted his release. He is just two years removed from a 945-yard, nine-touchdown season, so Matthews can still contribute in the right situation, and both Cleveland and Arizona would likely give him a sizeable role in their offenses. If Matthews is available in your league, you may want to consider stashing him if you have the room and need help at receiver.
