  • Ryan Kelly Will Miss 6-8 Weeks; Bad Sign for Andrew Luck

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Indianapolis Colts' center Ryan Kelly (foot) is scheduled to undergo surgery on a bone defect in his foot Friday and will likely be placed on the injured reserve/designated to return list. He will miss six to eight weeks in all likelihood, with the earliest game for him to start being Week 4 against the Seattle Seahawks. Ultimately, rest didn't prove to be helpful enough in dealing with the nagging foot injury Kelly suffered before the Colts' first preseason game. As the stalwart center on the team's offensive line last season, Kelly didn't allow a single sack on 626 passing snaps and proved invaluable in keeping the ground game on schedule. His absence will make the team hesitant to bring injured quarterback Andrew Luck back into the thick of regular season action. Without Kelly and Luck healthy, the Colts' offensive weapons should all take a significant negative hit on their draft stocks.

  • Colts Owner Unsure Whether Andrew Luck Will Start In Week 1

In a post-game discussion following the Indianapolis Colts' preseason matchup against the Detroit Lions, team owner Jim Irsay said that he couldn't "say unequivocally" whether quarterback Andrew Luck (shoulder) will start Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams, per Zak Keefer of the Indy Star. He does expect that Luck will be back sometime around the start of the season, but a full 16 game regular season is looking less and less likely. It's possible that the Colts are planning to smoothly transition Luck back into action against a softer front-seven in Week 3 when the team takes on the Cleveland Browns at Lucas Oil Stadium. Even at his ninth round draft price, Luck remains an extremely high risk-high reward player whose health is not guaranteed in 2017.

  • Andrew Luck Has Higher “Strength Levels” Than Last Season

In an interview on NFL Network during the Indianapolis Colts' first preseason game, general manager Chris Ballard stated that quarterback Andrew Luck's (shoulder) "strength levels are higher now than at any point last season." Ballard also noted that there is still no timeline for Luck's return to action. Strength was never a major issue for Luck in 2016, when he still managed to throw for over 4,000 yards while averaging a career high 7.8 passing yards per game. Although it is great to hear encouraging words that Luck could return to his 4,700-yard ceiling, the fact that he was sacked the second most times in the NFL last season should be of major concern. With no significant additions to the Colts' offensive line in the offseason and center Ryan Kelly sidelined with a foot injury, Luck's draft stock continues to plummet heading into August fantasy drafts.
