  • Kirk Cousins Wants To Remain In Washington Despite Consecutive Franchise Tags

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins told ESPN's Sal Paoloantonio he'd like to remain with Washington for the rest of his career: "I would love to be . . . a Redskin the rest of my career... When you look at the best of the best, those quarterbacks played with one team. And if you point to a couple guys who didn't, who changed teams, it really was against their will: I think if Joe Montana or Peyton Manning had their way they would have stayed where they had won Super Bowls and played so well. They wouldn't have played so well. So my desire is to stay with one team my entire career, and that would be Washington." It could be seen as a sign of disrespect that Washington has failed to sign Cousins to a long-term deal in either of the last two offseasons, but the franchise tags the team used in 2016 and 2017 have been worth almost $44 million combined. It remains to be seen if Washington will step up to the plate and offer Cousins as much money as he will undoubtedly command on the open market, barring a spectacular disappointment in 2017. Still, if you believe him, Cousins is leaving the door open for a continued, amicable relationship as the team's offensive centerpiece. His future is far from settled, but Cousins remains a locked-in QB1 in 2017 after finishing in the top eight at the position in consecutive seasons.

  • Kirk Cousins, Washington First-Team Offense, Does Little In Preseason Opener

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins completed just one of two passes for five yards in consecutive three-and-outs before giving way to the second-team offense. The Ravens defensive front dominated the Washington offensive line, also logging a sack on Cousins. Head coach Jay Gruden mentioned that the plan was for the offense to play about six snaps. It's worth mentioning that Cousins was without two of three "starting" wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Josh Doctson, who are both nursing hamstring injuries. Tight end Jordan Reed (toe) also sat out. There's no need to panic over one very short glimpse at the Redskins offense, but it would certainly inspire more confidence if they were able to get something going next Saturday against Green Bay. Cousins should be a midrange QB1 target in fantasy drafts.

  • Jordan Reed Makes Kirk Cousins Better

Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has a combined 121.4 passer rating when he's targeted tight end Jordan Reed on 201 attempts. The duo has combined for 153 catches and 17 touchdowns. Reed is an elite fantasy tight end, but the fact that he has yet to play a full 16-game season is a bit worrisome as your top tight end in the early rounds. However, when on the field and healthy, it's hard to argue that Reed is right up there with Rob Gronkowski as the best overall tight end in the NFL.
