Doug Martin News
The Oakland Raiders have parted ways with veteran running back Doug Martin after reaching an injury settlement. The team placed the 30-year-old on the IR last week with a shoulder issue but have ultimately decided to move on with Deandre Washington playing well enough in the preseason to handle the backup role. Martin could latch on to another squad midseason, but likely won't hold much fantasy value unless he takes over a starting role somewhere. Washington remains a handcuff and has no standalone value unless Josh Jacobs were to go down with an injury.
The Oakland Raiders have placed running back Doug Martinon IR Sunday and will move forward with Deandre Washington and Jalen Richard as backups to Josh Jacobs. Martin had just two carries in preseason game action while Washington made a strong case for himself shining in the team's first two exhibition games and will be the primary backup. The exact nature of why Martin was placed on the IR is unknown, but the team should pass along an update later today. Jacobs will get a slight fantasy boost as Martin was thought of to get goal-line work, but it appears that will now fall on the shoulders of the first-round rookie. Washington and Richard are purely handcuffs and have no standalone fantasy value.
Oakland Raiders running back Doug Martin is slated for a backup role with the Silver and Black this season after leading the team in rushing in 2018. The "Muscle Hamster" racked up an underwhelming 723 yards and four touchdowns last season and will play second fiddle behind rookie Josh Jacobs in 2019. Martin didn't hold much fantasy value as a starter a year ago and is off the radar this campaign in a backup role. With Jalen Richard finding work in the passing game, it would take a significant injury from Jacobs to give Martin any sort of fantasy relevance. He's a late-round handcuff in best-ball leagues and can be avoided in season-long formats.
