  • Latavius Murray Likely To Fill Short-Yardage Role

Minnesota Vikings running back Latavius Murray is likely to fill the short-yardage and goal-line role after the Vikings struggled mightily in those scenarios behind an atrocious offensive line in 2016. Murray, who is a bruiser at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, scored nine touchdowns last year from inside the five-yard line and converted 13 of 18 tries on short-yardage plays on third or fourth down. That'll give Murray fantasy value as a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex type, because rookie Dalvin Cook is widely expected to lead the team in early-down touches.

  • Latavius Murray Expects To Be Lead Back

Minnesota Vikings running back Latavius Murray (ankle) expects to be the main ball carrier this year despite the fact that the team traded up in the second round to draft Dalvin Cook. Murray also admitted that Cook has a leg up on him because of the fact that he couldn't participate in offseason workouts because of his injury. But he still believes it's his time as a veteran that has proven he can play in the league. Murray has dealt with nagging injuries in his career and has been inconsistent, although he had a career-high 12 touchdowns on 195 attempts for Oakland last season. Cook is likely the most all-around talented back on the roster, so he'll definitely push Murray for that lead-back role at some point in 2017. Sharing touches yet again -- Jerick McKinnon is also in the picture -- behind a very shaky offensive line makes Murray a declining fantasy asset. Cook is the runner to own in this backfield for his upside. Murray is more of an RB3/flex type in deeper leagues.

  • Latavius Murray Not Worried About Injury

Minnesota Vikings running back Latavius Murray (ankle), who is out of his walking boot and expects to be able to run unassisted in roughly a week, isn't worried about his latest injury after dealing with a similar surgery on his other leg four years ago. Murray is expected to be ready for training camp next month. With rookie Dalvin Cook a favorite for most of the early-down work in 2017, Murray will have a tough time coming anywhere close to his career-high 12 scores in 2016. Jerick McKinnon is also still around and will compete for touches in this crowded backfield. The 27-year-old Murray should not be overvalued based on his previous season's production.
