Darren Fells News
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Breshad Perriman and tight end Darren Fells have been promoted to the active roster ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Football Team. Perriman was recently signed to the team's practice squad, but with Antonio Brown (ankle) remaining out against Washington, he is expected to serve as an insurance policy, although Chris Godwin (foot), who is expected to play, and Mike Evans will naturally remain the preferred options for Tom Brady. In addition, Rob Gronkowski (back) also won't suit up, so Fells will slide in behind O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate. Nonetheless, both Perriman and Fells likely won't see much action and should only be utilized by the fantasy managers who are desperate to fill a void on their roster.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed free-agent tight end Darren Fells to their practice squad on Wednesday. He is expected to be elevated to the 53-man roster before Sunday's game against the Washington Football Team. The 35-year-old was targeted just five times in seven games for the Lions, catching four passes for 43 yards. Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski (back) is dealing with a back issue, and his status is up in the air in Week 10. The former Detroit Lion is behind Gronk, O.J. Howard, and Cameron Brate on the tight end depth chart. Despite Gronk being banged up, Fells would provide Tampa Bay depth at tight end but is not on the fantasy radar in 2021.
Detroit Lions veteran tight end Darren Fells asked for and was granted his release on Monday, according to a source. Fells will go on waivers and could provide an interesting option for tight end-needy teams. The 35-year-old was targeted just five times in seven games for the 0-8 Lions, catching four passes for 43 yards. With Fells moving on, the Lions has Rashod Berry and rookie Brock Wright as options to elevate from the practice squad to the active roster to provide depth behind T.J. Hockenson. Detroit was on their bye in Week 9, but Fells was a healthy scratch in the Week 8 blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He can provide some veteran depth with another organization, but he's unlikely to suddenly become fantasy relevant.
