Erik Swoope News
Former Colts tight end Erik Swoope is signing with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, according to a source. It's just a depth signing, as Swoope will be buried on the depth chart behind George Kittle, Jordan Reed and Ross Dwelley. The 28-year-old didn't play at all in 2019 and recorded just 23 receptions on 32 targets for 384 yards and four touchdowns in four seasons with the Colts. His best season came in 2016 when he caught 15 passes for 297 yards and one touchdown in 16 games (four starts). Swoope will be a complete afterthought in all fantasy formats.
The Oakland Raiders have waived tight end Erik Swoope after picking him up in late-May. The 27-year-old missed the entire 2017 campaign only to play in seven games for the Colts last season, catching eight passes for 87 yards. Swoope could land a backup role elsewhere, but its highly unlikely he enters the fantasy conversation. The move further secures Darren Waller and Luke Willson as the potential starters come Week 1, but fourth-round rookie Foster Moreau could also factor in at some point. Waller carries the highest ceiling of the bunch, and could wind up as a poor mans Jared Cook this season for the Silver and Black.
The Oakland Raiders signed free-agent tight end Erik Swoope to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end spent his first five seasons with the Colts. He has made six starts in 24 career games, catching 23 passes for 384 yards (16.7 average) and four touchdowns. He appeared in seven games for the Colts last year (two starts), catching eight passes for 87 yards and a career-high three scores. The Raiders released quarterback Landry Jones in a corresponding move. Oakland has Derek Carrier, Luke Willson, rookie Foster Moreau and Darren Waller on their tight end depth chart, so Swoope could certainly carve out a significant pass-catching role with his new team. He'd strictly be a deep sleeper at tight end in fantasy drafts.
