  • Blake Bortles In Jaguars Plans

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has battled with consistency in his career, but's Ian Rapoport reports the Jaguars are "planning to keep" Bortles. Rapoport said that was the plan "to my understanding." Bortles' fifth-year team option is guaranteed for injury only. Recovering from wrist surgery, he would need to pass a physical by the third day of the new league year (March 16) for the Jags to release him without penalty. Perhaps that is why they are now "planning to keep" Bortles after his replacement-level 2017.

  • Blake Bortles Had Surgery

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles had surgery on his right wrist last Friday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. He has battled the wrist issue since the 2016 season. This makes things tricky for the Jaguars, as Bortles' 2018 fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury. It becomes guaranteed on the third day of the league year (March 16) if Bortles is still on the roster. Bortles' timeline for recovery is unknown, but it seems highly likely it will put the Jaguars in a tough position. Bortles returning to Jacksonville would likely halt the rumors of the Jags acquiring Kirk Cousins or Alex Smith.

  • Blake Bortles Would Like To Return

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles said he would like to return in 2018. "I would be thrilled to be able to stay here and play here. Hopefully that can happen," Bortles said. His fifth-year option is only guaranteed for injury, so there is a chance they could move on. If Bortles is back under center in 2018, he'll have to prove worth of a contract extension. The fourth-year quarterback looked better down the stretch and in the playoffs against the Steelers and Patriots, but he threw for just 3,687 yards during the regular season with 21 touchdowns, although he had a career-low 13 interceptions. Bortles can use his legs to extend plays, too, but he has looked like a glorified game manager most of the time and doesn't have much of a ceiling left at this point for fantasy owners. Bortles isn't on the QB1 radar going into next year in what could be his last in Jacksonville.
