  • Blake Bortles Is Pain-Free

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said quarterback Blake Bortles (wrist) has been "pain-free" with "no limitations" during his offseason training in California. Bortles should be good to go for all offseason workouts, barring any setbacks. Despite bouncing back in 2017 and leading the Jags to an AFC title appearance, Bortles was still a glorified game manager with a strong defense supporting him. He can have QB1 performances based on matchups, but he's best selected as a fantasy backup.

  • Blake Bortles Not A Placeholder In Jacksonville

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles, who recently signed a three-year, $26 million guaranteed contract extension, isn't seen as a placeholder by the team. "He is not a place-holder. This wasn't a decision where he's going to be here for a year and we're going to be keeping our eyes out," general manager Dave Caldwell said. Bortles bounced back from an awful 2016 season to post a career-high 60.2 completion percentage while leading the team to an AFC title loss to the Patriots. He also had five games with a passer rating of 100. Bortles didn't do anything to kill the Jaguars this year, and he was helped by a strong defense on the other side. Don't be foolish to think that just because the Jags have more confidence in him that he'll suddenly become a QB1 for fantasy purposes.

  • Blake Bortles To Be 100 Percent Next Month

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles (wrist), who signed a three-year extension on Saturday, said he's on track in his rehab from right wrist surgery and expects to be cleared with no restrictions in early March. He will also begin his offseason work with throwing coach Adam Dedeaux in California this weekend, where he'll be on a limited program. Bortles had a "cleanup-type procedure" on his wrist to fix a partially torn ligament on the outside of his wrist. He played all of 2017 with the injury and even had three cortisone injections throughout the year. Even with the injury, Bortles had the best season of his young career, completing 60.2 percent of his passes for 3,687 yards, 21 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He surprisingly played well in the postseason and led the team to an AFC title appearance. While Bortles improved on his horrendous 2016 season, he still has issues with his mechanics and is more of a game manager than anything else. However, with Allen Robinson expected to be back, the Jags have a promising receiving corps and good ground game surrounding him. Still, Bortles will be seen as more of a QB2 again in 2018.
