  • Austin Hooper Working To Get Better

Atlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper worked with quarterback Matt Ryan last Friday and is putting in more work earlier in the offseason than ever before. "I'm here [in Atlanta] all offseason to work with him," Hooper said. "Whenever Matt wants to go out, I told him to just text me." Expectations were high for Hooper in his second season, but he disappointed with 10.7 yards per catch after posting 14.3 yards per catch in his rookie season. Head coach Dan Quinn said he was "pumped" about what Hooper can do in his third year and "very excited" about what he can do. Despite Hooper's upside, the Falcons are looking at free-agent tight end Ed Dickson and considering South Carolina tight end Hayden Hurst in the draft. With Levine Toilolo out of the picture, Atlanta will surely bring in another tight end, which could cut into Hooper's role. Hooper has upside as a red-zone threat, but he must be more consistent on a game-to-game basis to become more than just a solid TE2.

  • Austin Hooper A Bad Start for Week 15

Atlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper has something uniquely in common with fellow wide receiver Julio Jones: they've both caught three receiving touchdowns this year. Hooper has caught two of those touchdowns within the red zone and has a total of seven catches in the red zone this season. While Hooper's greatest detraction is the amount of talent he's surrounded by, he's still getting open when it counts. This week, Hooper and the Falcons travel to Florida as they play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday night. Hooper didn't find his way into the end zone when the Falcons played the Buccaneers in Week 12, and the chances aren't good for him to do so this week. The Buccaneers defense has only allowed three touchdowns to opposing tight ends this season, the second fewest in the league. Hooper isn't exceptionally gifted, and the Falcons have enough weapons to avoid having to force a pass to him. Hooper isn't worth the risk this week, especially with the fantasy championships on the line.

  • Austin Hooper Not a Good Start This Week

Atlanta Falcons tight end Austin Hooper hasn't had a significant fantasy day since his performance in Week 10, and this week versus the New Orleans Saints doesn't bode well for the young tight end. The Saints have allowed the eighth fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends, due in no small part to their fast ball-hawking linebacking corps. Hooper hasn't had a lot of opportunity for fantasy production, but his soft hands and size make him a legitimate threat to score every week. However, this week Hooper is a risky start. There are better options at the position, and his potential for failure far outweighs his potential for success.
