Avonte Maddox News
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox is being released by the organization, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move will save the organization $1.95 million on the cap. The 27-year-old was a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and has played his entire six-year career in an Eagles uniform. Over 65 games, Maddox has collected 250 tackles, eight forced fumbles, four interceptions, and 31 passes defended. He'll now head to free agency, where he'll likely have a market as a depth defensive back.
Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox (pectoral) will soon be designated to return from injured reserve, according to Josh Tolentino of the Philadelphia Enquirer. Once official, this move will open Maddox's practice window, giving him 21 days to practice without being officially activated from injured reserve. If Philadelphia doesn't activate him by the end of that 21-day window, his season will be over, though Tolentino notes that the Eagles "are hopeful" he plays again this year. Maddox has been sidelined since Week 2. Through less than two full games, he registered eight tackles and one forced fumble.
There is worry that Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Avonte Maddox (pectoral) tore his pectoral muscle in the win over the visiting Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night, according to sources. Maddox went for an MRI exam on Friday morning, and if the tests confirm the suspicion, Maddox could be forced to miss the entire 2023 season. If the 27-year-old is done for the season, it will be a significant blow to Philly's secondary, as he is one of the better nickel cornerbacks in the league when healthy. The problem is Maddox has had a tough time staying on the field. The Eagles can't get James Bradberry (concussion) back soon enough.
