"Nothing is imminent" in regards to a new contract for New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. He is set to earn $8 million in 2018, but the Patriots gave him a $5.5 million incentive package last year, which he earned. He considered retirement after losing the Super Bowl, but he's back for at least another season and should remain the first tight end off the board as long as quarterback Tom Brady is still throwing him passes. Gronk has been the top-scoring fantasy tight end for three of the last four seasons, even while missing games here and there due to injuries.
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will not hold out in training camp as he seeks resolution to his contract. He's expected to report to training camp on July 25, according to a source. Gronk contemplated retirement after losing the Super Bowl, but he'll be back for at least one more season. Injuries make him a risk, but with Tom Brady still at quarterback, Gronkowski is an elite fantasy tight end, albeit with considerable risk, too.
The New England Patriots explored a trade of tight end Rob Gronkowski three days before the draft, according to a league source. However, that was before the Patriots were certain that Gronk intended to come back for another season. It's interesting to ponder where Gronkowski might've landed, but it's a non-story now. The elite tight end is taking part in minicamp and will be a high-end fantasy tight end once again in 2018.
