Eric Berry News
The Indianapolis Colts are a likely landing spot for free-agent safety Eric Berry, who sat out all of last season. Berry is a former All-Pro with the Chiefs, but he's played in just four games in the last three years, including the playoffs. The veteran safety tore his Achilles in the first game of the 2017 season. Berry was released by the Chiefs last offseason. He "did have offers" to play last year, but he wanted to ensure he was fully healthy. "I've seen tape of him, and he looks great," Trotter said. At this point in his career with all of his injuries, Berry is no sure thing for any team. He probably won't be an every-down player anymore either.
Former Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry, who did not play at all in 2019, plans to play in 2020 after intentionally taking the season off to rest his body and mind. Berry was cut by the Chiefs in 2018 and has only played in three games since 2016 due to injuries and a bout with cancer. The former first-round pick in 2010 has 14 career interceptions and five touchdowns and could provide a team with a veteran presence in the secondary in 2020. However, it remains to be seen if any team will take a chance on the veteran moving forward. Berry is unlikely to be an asset in IDP leagues if he gets picked up by a team.
The Kansas City Chiefs released safety Eric Berry on Wednesday. The veteran All-Pro played in 89 games (87 starts) in his nine seasons with the Chiefs. He has 440 career tackles (372 solo), 5.5 sacks, 14 interceptions (five touchdowns), 51 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Berry is a five-time Pro Bowler but he played in just three games the last two seasons due to injuries. The Chiefs are making a concerted effort to get younger this offseason on defense.
