Jared Veldheer News
Veteran offensive lineman Jared Veldheer said on Thursday that he plans to retire from the NFL after he was suspended for six games by the league due to a Clomid prescription. The 33-year-old said he was taking the medication because of "abnormally low" testosterone, which he suggested was "caused from pituitary damage suffered from repeated blows to the head." Veldheer has retired before, but he came out of retirement in 2019 to join the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay signed him off the Indianapolis Colts practice squad for the playoffs last season. Veldheer was a third-round pick by the Oakland Raiders out of Hillsdale College in 2010. He played in 121 regular season games (114 starts) for the Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Packers and Colts.
The Green Bay Packers placed recently signed offensive tackle Jared Veldheer on the Reserve/COVID-19 list due to a positive test for the virus. It means that Veldheer will not make history (at least not yet) and become the first player in NFL history to play for two different teams in the same postseason. The 33-year-old offensive lineman played for the Colts in their wild-card loss last weekend to the Bills and then signed with Green Bay and was in line to play in the Divisional Round on Saturday against the Rams. It would have been a cool story, but Veldheer could still accomplish the feat if he's cleared from the league's COVID-19 protocols next week and the Packers advance past the Rams to the NFC Championship game.
Offensive tackle Jared Veldheer, who started for the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday in their wild-card loss to the Buffalo Bills, is now signing with the Green Bay Packers, according to a source. Veldheer will become the first player in NFL history to play two playoff games for two different teams. He will be allowed to sign with the Packers because he was on the Colts practice squad. Veldheer spent most of the 2020 season without a team after retiring for the second time, but he signed with the Colts' practice squad in late December. The veteran will return to Green Bay after he played in two games for them in 2019. David Bakhtiari was placed on Injured Reserve nine days ago, so there's a real chance that Veldheer will take the field for Green Bay on Saturday against the Rams in the Divisional Round.
