Golden Tate News
The Tennessee Titans signed veteran wide receiver Golden Tate to their practice squad on Tuesday. The Titans need some help at the position with both Julio Jones (hamstring) and Marcus Johnson (hamstring) on Injured Reserve. Johnson will miss the rest of the season. No. 1 wideout A.J. Brown (chest) was also injured in the Week 11 loss to the Houston Texans and could be questionable to play in Week 12 against the New England Patriots. Tate, 33, hasn't played yet in 2021 after catching 35 of his 52 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games (four starts) for the New York Giants in 2020. There's a chance that Tate is added to the active roster soon, but he'll need time to learn the offense and will still be behind Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Chester Rogers and rookie Dez Fitzpatrick.
Free-agent wide receiver Golden Tate remains available on the open market after being released by the New York Giants following two disappointing seasons. The 32-year-old hasn't received much interest, but he wants to continue playing and mentioned the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Rams as three teams he'd be interested in joining. Tate wouldn't mind reuniting with quarterback Matthew Stafford in LA after enjoying three 1,000-yard seasons with Stafford in Detroit. The veteran wideout caught just 35 of 53 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games (four starts) for New York in 2020. He was benched at one point and dealt with a calf injury, so Tate will have to prove he's worth a spot on fantasy rosters again if he signs with a new team.
The New York Giants released wide receiver Golden Tate on Wednesday, according to a source. Cutting the 32-year-old veteran wideout will save the Giants $6.2 million in salary cap space. Tate was with the G-Men the last two seasons and caught 84 passes for 1,064 yards and eight touchdowns, but he caught just 35 passes on 52 targets for 388 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games (four starts) for the team in 2020. Tate was unhappy with his role in the offense last season and voiced his displeasure, leading to his benching. It's not a surprise that the Giants moved on to help free up some salary cap space. A Pro Bowler in 2014, Tate still has something left, although he'll likely serve in a complementary role wherever he lands next.
