Jason Kelce News
Seven-time Pro Bowl center and Philadelphia Eagles sports icon Jason Kelce officially announced on Monday that he is retiring from the NFL. All signs were pointing to Kelce hanging up his cleats this offseason after 13 years in the league following the Eagles' early exit from the postseason earlier this year. The 36-year-old will now walk away after being selected to seven Pro Bowl teams and six first-team All-Pro squads. He won one Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl LII with Philadelphia and has a strong case for a bust in Canton, Ohio, in the Hall of Fame down the road. Kelce's departure in Philadelphia will most likely have big ramifications for the Eagles' offensive line moving forward, and it will be interesting to see how effective their offense is moving forward in short-yardage situations with the "tush push."
Philadelphia Eagles star center Jason Kelce said he'll make an official announcement about the status of his NFL career "in the future." Multiple reports suggested that Kelce planned to retire from the NFL following the Eagles' wild-card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night after he completed his 13th season in the NFL. "I just don't think you're in a position after a game like that to make that decision," Kelce told his brother, Travis, during their podcast. A sixth-round selection in 2011, Kelce was an underdog story and eventually earned his sixth All-Pro selection in his age-36 season in 2023. He has discussed retirement both privately and publicly over the past year, so it would be a surprise if he didn't eventually officially announce his retirement after a disappointing end to what was looking like another promising year for Philadelphia.
Six-time All-Pro and future Hall of Fame center Jason Kelce told his Philadelphia Eagles teammates in Monday night's postgame locker room that he is in fact retiring after the team lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32-9 in the wild-card round. The 36-year-old became visibly emotional at the end of Monday's game and has considered retiring after other recent seasons, but this time is said to be real and happening. Kelce spent 13 years in the league, all with the Eagles, after initially being a sixth-round selection in 2011 out of Cincinnati. One of the best centers in the game during his 13-year run in the NFL, the Eagles are going to have a difficult time replacing him, and their tush-push efforts next season may not be as successful without Kelce anchoring the offensive line.
