The Houston Texans are signing free-agent quarterback Brandon Weeden to be their backup to Deshaun Watson. Weeden hasn't thrown a pass in two years and won't have any fantasy relevance holding the clipboard for Watson in Houston.

With Marcus Mariota (hamstring) day-to-day, the Tennessee Titans signed quarterback Brandon Weeden to a one-year contract. The Titans needed insurance behind Matt Cassel and the veteran Weeden will provide just that. This is absolutely awful news for Mariota's availability leading into Week 5, but it is not a guarantee Mariota will sit against the Dolphins. Coach Mike Mularkey has already said Mariota could come down to a game-time decision, and does not need to practice to play. If either Weeden or Cassell play in Week 5, target the Dolphins as a top-five defense.

The Houston Texans have cut veteran quarterback Brandon Weeden and will enter the season with just two players at the position -- current starter Tom Savage and rookie Deshaun Watson. There had been talk during the offseason that Weeden would stick around as insurance for an injury to Savage, but the team saw enough positives from Watson this preseason to commit to him as the backup quarterback. Though fantasy owners were already avoiding Weeden, this move means that Deshaun Watson's stock should rise. He will be the starting quarterback if Savage misses any time this season.
