Alshon Jeffery News
The Philadelphia Eagles officially released wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and defensive tackle Malik Jackson with post-June 1 designations. The moves freed up $4 million in salary cap space for the 2021 season, but the Eagles will still carry more than $9 million in dead money. Jeffery only played in seven games last season while dealing with a foot injury. He caught just six passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. The 31-year-old hasn't played in a full season since his first year in Philly in 2017 and has fallen off a cliff because of injuries in recent seasons. Jackson signed with the Eagles in 2019 and missed all but one game due to a foot injury. He managed 28 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2020.
The Philadelphia Eagles plan on releasing wide receiver Alshon Jeffery when the new league year begins in March. With a much younger wideout corps expected for 2021, the move has been obvious for quite a while. Philadelphia also officially released veteran pass-catcher DeSean Jackson on Monday after he said the team was releasing him last week on his Instagram account. Jeffery is heading into his age-31 season and hasn't played in a full season since 2017 due to various injuries. He managed to play in just seven games (two starts) in 2020, catching just six of his 13 targets for 115 yards and a touchdown. A Pro Bowler in 2013 with the Bears, Jeffery's fantasy value has fallen off a cliff the last several years, and he's unlikely to be in play for fantasy managers this fall.
The Philadelphia Eagles restructured the contracts of wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and defensive tackle Malik Jackson on Monday, according to sources. The moves will give the team some salary cap relief in 2021 and will force them to make decisions on the players before next spring. Jeffery was a healthy scratch in the Week 17 regular season finale against the Washington Football Team. The 30-year-old veteran didn't make his 2020 debut until Week 10 after having offseason foot surgery, and he caught just six passes on 13 targets for 115 yards and a touchdown in seven games this season. The Eagles will likely trade or release Jeffery this offseason with DeSean Jackson, Jalen Reagor, Greg Ward Jr., Travis Fulgham, John Hightower and Quez Watkins at the position in 2021 and beyond.
