The Cleveland Browns recently agreed upon a contract extension with running back Duke Johnson. Long-time Browns beat reporter Tony Grossi believes that wide receiver Josh Gordon could be the next player on the team to receive an extension. Due to his multiple suspensions, Gordon is making just over $700,000 in 2018 and can become a restricted free agent in 2019. If he's able to produce on the field in 2018 and stay out of trouble, the team could reward him with a long-term deal which would keep him in Cleveland for the foreseeable future.
Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield came away from organized team activities extremely impressed by wide receiver Josh Gordon. When asked about Gordon, Mayfield stated, "Physically talented. I've never seen anybody like him, bar none. He's definitely gifted." Mayfield is expected to open the season as the second-string quarterback but he and Gordon could combine to form a dynamic one-two punch if Mayfield is as good as advertised. Gordon, if he can stay out of trouble, appears poised to reestablish himself as a WR1 this season.
The Cleveland Browns re-signed four of their exclusive-rights free agents on Monday. Wide receivers Josh Gordon and Matt Hazel, fullback Danny Vitale and offensive lineman Austin Reiter were all inked on Monday, the first day of the Browns 2018 offseason program. Gordon is the biggest name of the group and signed with the team on a one-year, $790,000 contract. The veteran wide receiver is eligible to become a restricted free agent after the 2018 season. There's a chance the Browns could lock him up to a long-term deal if he's able to stay on the field and out of trouble this upcoming season.
