Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant will sit out Sunday's contest with the Vikings. This is great news for Stefon Diggs, who would have likely been covered by the league's 10th-ranked corner according to PFF, and makes Diggs a low-end WR1 this week.
Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant has officially been ruled out of Sunday's matchup versus the Minnesota Vikings, removing a key piece of the Falcons effective secondary. The most likely beneficiaries of Trufant's absence will be Vikings quarterback Case Keenum and wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Diggs is explosive, and without Trufant, the Falcons secondary will struggle to contain both Diggs and wide receiver Adam Thielen. When healthy, Diggs can torch a vulnerable defense, as he proved in Week 3 when he scored 29.3 fantasy points versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While the Falcons defense without Trufant doesn't quite equal the Buccaneers poor defense, the opportunity is there for Diggs to really rack up fantasy points this week.
Atlanta Falcons cornerback Desmond Trufant is still in the NFL's concussion protocol, and barring a miraculous comeback, won't be available to suit up in Sunday's matchup versus the Vikings. Trufant leads the Falcons in interceptions, is second in passes defensed, and much of the responsibility of guarding the Minnesota Vikings explosive wide receiver Stefon Diggs would have fallen onto his capable shoulders. The Falcons defense is currently ranked ninth in fantasy points allowed to opposing wide receivers, but playing without Trufant against the Vikings, a team that is currently ranked fifth in the league in points per game, leaves Diggs primed to explode in this game. In their past four games, the Falcons have averaged 28 points, which means this has the potential to become a shootout, one that Diggs and his fantasy owners can benefit from.
