Free-agent running back Kenjon Barner is signing with the Carolina Panthers on Friday, according to a source. Barner was selected in the sixth round by the Panthers back in 2013, but he played in just eight games his rookie season and missed all of 2014. Barner has a career-high 28 rushing attempts (2015), 129 yards (2016) and two touchdowns (2016). He'll provide depth to Carolina's backfield with Fozzy Whittaker (knee) out for the year.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Kenjon Barner did not practice on Thursday. The reason is unknown so far. Barner plays a bit role on offense as the fourth running back, but he's a key part of special teams as the kick returner. In his place, wide receiver Nelson Agholor was practicing with the special teams unit, handling kick returns. It's not major news, especially with over a week to go until the Super Bowl, but it could potentially give Agholor a significant boost in value anywhere return yards are counted.
Philadelphia Eagles running backs Corey Clement and Kenjon Barner were getting some significant playing time in the two games that Wendell Smallwood (knee) missed. With Smallwood expected back for Week 7, however, both running backs will slide back into fantasy irrelevance. Rookie Clement will remain the third running back option and Barner will return to mostly playing on special teams. While neither put up any significant stats in the weeks they had expanded roles, there was plenty of buzz around Clement in the offseason. He's worth hanging onto in dynasty and keeper leagues, but Barner shouldn't be rostered in any format at this point.
