Levine Toilolo News
New York Giants tight end Levine Toilolo (Achilles) suffered a torn Achilles during Wednesday's practice and will miss the entire 2021 season. He was carted off the field and later diagnosed with a torn Achilles. The 30-year-old was mainly used as a blocking tight end last season, hauling in five catches on six targets for 46 yards over 16 games. Toilolo restructured his contract with New York during the offseason to remain with the Giants. Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph will be the top two options at tight end in 2021 while Kaden Smith and Tommy Stevens compete for the Giants TE3 role during camp.
The New York Giants are expected to sign former San Francisco 49ers tight end Levine Toilolo, according to league sources. The Giants need all kinds of depth help at the position, but they especially need to replace the recently retired Rhett Ellison, who was primarily a blocking tight end like Toilolo. The 28-year-old caught just two passes for 10 yards in 13 games (no starts) in his lone season with the Niners in 2019. He never had more than 31 catches in his five seasons with the Falcons to begin his career. Toilolo is strictly a blocker and can be ignored in fantasy.
Detroit Lions tight end Levine Toilolo caught all four of his targets for 28 yards in the loss to Buffalo on Sunday. Toilolo has been the only tight end used in this offense recently and in turn has provided the most steady play from the position all season. He's now caught 12 passes for 144 yards in his last three games. While his upside is capped because his scoring potential is low, Toilolo is gaining traction as a viable option for Matthew Stafford. However, a matchup with Minnesota' defense looms in Week 16, so Toilolo is yet again an afterthought for fantasy purposes.
