Lane Taylor News
Former Green Bay Packers starting offensive guard Lane Taylor agreed to an undisclosed one-year deal with the Houston Texans on Thursday, according to a source. Taylor will be reunited with his former Packers offensive line coach in James Campen. He is coming off a torn ACL but is expected to be ready to go for training camp this summer. The 31-year-old has played all eight of his NFL seasons in Green Bay and was a starter when he was healthy. However, Taylor has played in just three games in the last two seasons, thanks to a torn biceps in 2019 and the torn ACL in 2020. If he can remain on the field, Taylor could be a solid addition to Houston's offensive line at the guard position.
Green Bay Packers five-year starting offensive guard Lane Taylor (knee) visited with the San Francisco 49ers on Friday, mostly as a medical check-in five months after tearing his ACL. A source said Taylor's rehab is on schedule. Taylor blew out his knee in the Week 1 season opener last year and has played in just three games in the last two years due to injuries. He missed 14 games in 2019 after he tore his biceps during practice. Taylor restructured his contract before last year and won the starting guard job in training camp. He's entering his age-32 season and has started in 50 games for the Packers since the 2015 season. If the 49ers or another team don't take a chance on him, he could wind up returning to the Packers as experienced interior offensive line depth.
Green Bay Packers left guard Lane Taylor agreed to rework the last year of his deal, freeing up around $3 million in 2020 salary cap space. Taylor is now due $1.5 million this year, including a $100,000 signing bonus. He was scheduled to make around $4.55 million in 2020, according to OverTheCap. The 30-year-old has been with the Packers for his entire seven-year career and has started 49 games in 78 appearances in that time. However, he played in just two games last year before being put on Injured Reserve with a biceps injury. Second-year guard Elgton Jenkins is slated to take over for Taylor full time this year after impressing in his rookie season.
