Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy wants tight end Trey Burton to fill the "U" position that Travis Kelce formerly had in his offense in Kansas City. The position is a receiver/tight end hybrid role. "It's an important role," Nagy said. "It's easy to create some plays for. And when you have a guy that has the size that Trey has and the speed that he has, it's about mismatches." The presence of young and improving tight end Adam Shaheen also complicates matters, but Burton has the real breakout fantasy potential here. However, he's best selected as just a TE2 with upside for more.
The Chicago Bears are signing free-agent tight end Trey Burton to a four-year, $32 million deal, according to a source. The Bears are quickly working to upgrade their pass-catching corps, as they also signed wide receiver Allen Robinson. Burton played second fiddle to Zach Ertz in Philly in 2017 and caught 23 passes for 248 yards and five touchdowns, but he should fare much better in Chicago with young quarterback Mitch Trubisky at the helm. Burton's fantasy value will rise considerably, but his upside could be limited due to the presence of promising young tight end Adam Shaheen.
The Detroit Lions are serious suitors for free-agent tight end Trey Burton. Burton is not expected to return to Philadelphia this season, and as many as 16 teams have showed some level of interest in Burton. The Lions have come up the most, however. The Lions have not indicated what they are planning to do with incumbent starter Eric Ebron, but Burton would likely come in to start, meaning Ebron would either be traded or released. Burton would immediately become a fantasy-relevant tight end if he became the starter in Detroit.
