The Oakland Raiders agreed to a three-year deal with free-agent tight end Derek Carrier on Tuesday, according to a source. Carrier isn't known for his pass-catching skills; he has just 36 receptions in four seasons in the NFL and had just eight catches for 71 yards in 14 games for the Rams in 2017. Jared Cook remains Oakland's main pass-catching tight end, so fantasy owners need not worry about Carrier.

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr (back) said the three transverse process fractures he suffered in his back in Week 4 against the Broncos affected him throughout the season. He was originally expected to miss two to four weeks, but Carr ended up only missing one game. "I had to deal with it," Carr said. "I had to do certain things to manage it, but I just didn't talk about it. I didn't want it to be an excuse. It was a want more than anything else. I didn't want it to be a reason. I couldn't let that be a reason why I couldn't do A, B or C." After a promising 2016 season, Carr took a huge step back in 2017, but his back injury likely didn't help matters. With new head coach Jon Gruden now in town, there will be high hopes that Carr can return to his 2016 form. With full health, there's a good chance that happens, but fantasy owners probably aren't taking any chances on him as anything more than a low-end QB1.

Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said he wants new coach Jon Gruden "to be tough" on him. Gruden has said he will "demand more" from his quarterback moving forward, and it sounds like Carr is fine with that. "I hope that he demands of me. I hope he's hard on me," Carr said. "Let's go fix problems that I have and let's do what I need to do to win championships." Carr has plenty of problems to fix coming off a down season, but he has shown in the past he can be a quality quarterback. His willingness to accept criticism and work with Gruden is a good sign he will get back to that level again.
