San Francisco 49ers running back Jerick McKinnon caught several passes out of the backfield on Tuesday in organized team activities and looked very comfortable. McKinnon will have an incredibly high fantasy and real-life ceiling as San Fran's primary back in 2018, especially if he's also catching most of the passes out of the backfield. The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrow thinks the over/under on McKinnon's catches this year might be 73, which is the highest amount of catches Devonta Freeman had under then offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Atlanta. It's safe to say that McKinnon's fantasy value is soaring heading into his first season with the Niners as an RB1, but that also could make him a big bust candidate. He'll be a much safer selection in PPR formats.

The San Francisco 49ers consider running back Jerick McKinnon a three-down back. "We think he's a great third-down back. We also think he's good on first and second down, too," head coach Kyle Shanahan said. San Fran signed McKinnon to be their main workhorse in 2018, although Matt Breida should spell him here and there. Still, with the possibility of playing all three downs often in an offense on the rise with a strong young quarterback in Jimmy Garoppolo, McKinnon has RB1 upside in all formats heading into 2018 drafts. You'll probably have to pay a pretty penny to secure him.

The San Francisco 49ers placed a large priority on running back Jerick McKinnon in free agency, which is why they signed him to a four-year, $30 million deal ($11.7 million in guarantees). Head coach Kyle Shanahan sees McKinnon filling the Devonta Freeman role from his time in Atlanta. McKinnon averaged 4.0 yards per attempt on the ground in his four NFL seasons with the Vikings. With McKinnon being the clear starter, Matt Breida will fill the complementary role in the backfield. In an offense on the rise, McKinnon will be a popular fantasy target in 2018 and he has RB1 upside.
