Los Angeles Rams COO and vice president Kevin Demoff said contract talks with defensive tackle Aaron Donald have been positive of late. "So we're working on it and we'll keep pushing forward. The dialogue's been great. It's been positive. I think [Donald] and coach [Sean] McVay have a terrific relationship. We look forward to getting this done. And putting Aaron in the place where he should be among the highest-paid defensive players," Demoff said. Donald held out of organized team activities and minicamp, and he could continue that holdout into training camp if there is no resolution by then. Donald is an elite pass rusher in the NFL. He had 11 sacks in 2017 and has a whopping 39 sacks in his four seasons with the Rams.
Los Angeles Rams defensive end Aaron Donald is not expected to attend mandatory minicamp this week as he seeks a lucrative long-term deal from the team. Donald sat out organized team activities last year but attended the minicamp. He's a three-time All Pro and was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, so he's looking to become perhaps the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. He's scheduled to earn around $6.9 million in the final year of his rookie deal. The Rams could always slap the franchise tag on Donald if they can't come to an agreement each of the next two seasons. Neither side has expressed that they are close to an agreement.
Los Angeles Rams Pro Bowl defensive tackle Aaron Donald informed the team that he will not be attending organized team activities as he seeks a new contract, according to a team official. This should not come as a surprise. The soon-to-be 27-year-old will get paid handsomely after tying a career high with 11 sacks in 2017. He's one of the best pass-rushing defensive tackles in the NFL for a strong Rams defense.
