Los Angeles Rams safety Lamarcus Joyner signed his $11.287 million franchise tag tender on Monday, according to a source. Joyner is expected to return as the team's starting free safety in defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' scheme. Joyner had 49 tackles and his first three career interceptions in 2017 and will be an underrated part of a secondary that also added star cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters in the offseason.

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Lamarcus Joyner is set to be a free agent, and Rams head coach Sean McVay said re-signing Joyner is a "huge priority." Joyner had a breakout year in his first full season at safety, creating four turnovers and grading out positively across the board at PFF. He is expected to be brought back as a strong fit in defensive coordinator Wade Phillips' scheme. The Rams may franchise Joyner if they do not extend him before the March 6 deadline.

The Los Angeles Rams may weigh using the franchise tag on safety Lamarcus Joyner over wide receiver Sammy Watkins. In 12 games in 2017, Joyner accumulated 39 total tackles, and a career-high three interceptions. It would make sense considering it looks like the Rams are getting set to let cornerback Trumaine Johnson, who they franchise tagged in 2017, to hit the open market. Watkins was mostly a disappointment in his first season with the Rams, being outshined by Robert Woods. Either way you slice it, LA's defense is in good hands right now under defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, and they may even be getting better if they acquire corner Marcus Peters.
