Landon Collins News
New York Giants safety Landon Collins is set to make his season debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 7. The 28-year-old has spent each of the last two weeks on the practice squad. It appears Collins is back into game shape and ready to make an impact on defense. The former All-Pro safety is expected to be used as a linebacker and in the secondary as well. The addition of Collins should give the Giants defense a small boost going forward.
Free-agent safety Landon Collins is making a trip to visit the New York Giants on Monday. The 28-year-old has spent each of the last three seasons with Washington. Before that, Collins made three Pro Bowls and an All-Pro team as a member of the Giants. He finished with 81 tackles, three sacks, and two interceptions through 13 games last season. Clearly, Collins still has something left in the tank. The Giants could use an upgrade on defense and Collins might seriously consider joining the now 3-1 Giants roster.
The Washington Commanders released defensive back Landon Collins and defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis on Wednesday. ESPN's Adam Schefter also reports that the team released offensive lineman Ereck Flowers. Collins and the Commanders were unable to agree on a restructured contract after he played out three years of a six-year, $84 million deal signed in 2019. His release will save the team $6.5 million with $9.6 million in dead money. Ioannidis was in the final year of a four-year contract, and his release will save Washington $6.88 million. He should be able to land another starting gig on the open market. The Commanders needed to free up more salary cap space after trading for quarterback Carson Wentz last week.
