Randy Gregory News
Free-agent veteran edge defender Randy Gregory is signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. The 31-year-old spent most of last season with the San Francisco 49ers after being released by the Denver Broncos early in the 2023 campaign, and he now finds a new home in Tampa Bay. Overall, the 2015 second-round pick has accumulated 106 tackles (78 solo), 22 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one interception, three pass deflections, and 11.5 run stuffs in 60 career games with the 49ers, Broncos, and Cowboys. He has not lived up to his hype as a prospect, but he can be utilized as a solid rotational pass rusher. The Buccaneers lost former All-Pro rusher Shaq Barrett this offseason, so Gregory will help fill his role on the edge.
San Francisco 49ers new defensive end Randy Gregory arrived in the Bay Area on Friday to take his physical after being acquired in a trade from the Denver Broncos. He will not be available on Sunday for the Week 5 contest against the Dallas Cowboys and will rejoin the Niners on Monday. The 30-year-old veteran will provide pass-rushing depth for one of the best defenses in the league, but he's unlikely to move the needle in IDP fantasy leagues. Gregory played in just 10 games (six starts) for the Broncos in his two seasons with them, recording 11 solo tackles, three sacks, four tackles for loss, nine QB hits and two forced fumbles.
The Denver Broncos have traded linebacker Randy Gregory and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2024 sixth-round pick. Originally, the veteran was going to be released, but they never formally did it when it was announced a couple of days ago. Instead, they trade up from the seventh round to the sixth round in the upcoming draft and Gregory is set to see some new scenery. The 30-year-old has collected one sack, nine combined tackles, two tackles for loss, and two QB hits. His two-year tenure in Denver was ultimately a failure, but he could see some more success surrounded by a stacked defense in San Francisco.
