Sean Mannion News
Former Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sean Mannion is ending his nine-year NFL career to join the coaching ranks. The 2015 third-round pick is joining Matt LaFleur's staff with the Green Bay Packers as a quarterback and passing game coach. In 14 career games (three starts) Mannion completed 67 of his 110 passing attempts for 573 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. He did not play in a game in 2022 or 2023. He'll now move on to the next chapter of his football career and work with 2023 breakout quarterback Jordan Love.
The Seattle Seahawks elevated quarterback Sean Mannion from the practice squad to the active 53-man roster on Monday, a sign that starter Geno Smith (groin) will be inactive on Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. Smith was listed as questionable on the team's final Week 15 injury report with a groin injury and was considered a long shot on Monday morning to play. Mannion would give the Seahawks more QB depth behind Drew Lock, who is trending toward making his second straight start with Smith hurting. Fantasy managers that rolled the dice on Smith are probably going to have to pick up and start Lock unless they have another backup signal-caller already on their roster. Lock could actually be a decent emergency streaming option against an Eagles defense that has been generous to opposing QBs and receivers. They're also missing star cornerback Darius Slay (knee).
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sean Mannion has been elevated from the practice squad ahead of the Week 14 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. This could mean bad news for the Seahawks. Quarterback Geno Smith (groin) was unable to practice all week. Drew Lock is expected to start if Smith is unable to play. The elevation of Mannion points to Smith likely sitting out this game. If Smith sits, all of the fantasy relevant players in Seattle would take a significant hit in value with Lock under center. Mannion would be the backup, but he's not any better of an option at quarterback.
