Matt LaCosse News
Former New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and New York Giants tight end Matt LaCosse announced his retirement from football on Tuesday. LaCosse began his career in 2015 with the Giants after being an undrafted free agent out of Illinois. He spent last season with the Patriots, mostly on their practice squad, where he didn't see a single target in just one game played. In five NFL seasons played, the 29-year-old had just 40 receptions for 403 yards and two touchdowns on 60 targets in 34 games (14 starts).
New England Patriots tight end Matt LaCosse was originally a victim of the final roster cuts on Tuesday. However, the organization has decided to bring back the veteran tight end, but on the practice squad. He will have to beat out Devin Asiasi if he wants a spot on the 53-man roster. Regardless, neither of them are going to have much of a role with Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry healthy in New England. Both players should be heavily favored red zone targets for rookie Mac Jones.
New England Patriots tight ends Matt LaCosse and Benjamin Watson are tough plays for owners this week. Both players are getting an equal opportunity in routes run recently, and given that the Patriots have only had one game with a tight end scoring over eight PPR points this season, the position has become marginalized in the offense. Fantasy owners should consider other options at the position, as the player's low share of the offense damages their DFS value.
